Rangers Announce Coaching Changes Amidst Season Transition…..
Rangers Football Club has initiated significant coaching changes as the 2024/25 season concludes, reflecting the club’s commitment to revitalizing its performance and aligning with long-term strategic goals.
Philippe Clement’s Departure
In February 2025, Rangers parted ways with manager Philippe Clement following a series of underwhelming results. The team’s 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, coupled with an unexpected exit from the Scottish Cup at the hands of Queen’s Park, led to Clement’s dismissal. At the time of his departure, Rangers were 13 points adrift of league leaders Celtic
Barry Ferguson Appointed Interim Head Coach
In response to Clement’s exit, Rangers appointed former captain Barry Ferguson as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Ferguson, a Hall of Fame inductee and one of the club’s most decorated players, brings extensive experience from his playing career and previous managerial roles at Clyde, Kelty Hearts, and Alloa Athletic
Ferguson is supported by a seasoned coaching staff, including:
Issame Charai Assistant Manager
Neil McCann First Team Coach
Billy Dodds First Team Coach
Allan McGregor Goalkeeping Coach
Brian Gilmour Academy Liaison
This team aims to inject a high-intensity, no-nonsense coaching style to rejuvenate the squad’s performance
Academy Coaching Restructuring
Parallel to changes in the first team, Rangers have implemented strategic adjustments within their Academy coaching staff:
David McCallum continues as lead coach of the B Team, now assisted by former Women’s Head Coach Malky Thomson.
Cameron Campbell has been appointed PDP Talent Development Coach, focusing on high-potential players between Under-16s and the B Team.
Brian Gilmour takes charge of the Under-18s team, aiming to nurture young talent for future integration into the first team
These changes underscore Rangers’ commitment to developing talent and ensuring a seamless transition from the Academy to the senior squad.
Looking Ahead
As Rangers approach the conclusion of the current season, the club is undergoing a comprehensive football review. The appointment of a permanent manager is anticipated in the coming months, coinciding with the expected completion of the club’s ownership transition to 49ers Enterprises
With a blend of experienced leadership and a renewed focus on youth development, Rangers aim to restore their competitive edge and align with their long-term objectives.
