Rangers Confirm Leadership Group for 2025 Season: Trouba Remains Captain, Four Named Alternates

The New York Rangers have officially confirmed their leadership group heading into the 2025 NHL season, with defenseman Jacob Trouba retaining the captaincy for a third straight year. The team also announced that Adam Fox, Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, and Mika Zibanejad will serve as alternate captains.

Trouba, 31, continues to be the emotional and physical leader on and off the ice, known for his hard-nosed play and steady presence in the locker room. Despite some speculation during the offseason about a possible change, head coach Peter Laviolette reaffirmed his confidence in Trouba’s leadership.

“Jacob has the full respect of the team. He leads by example and continues to set the tone every night,” Laviolette said.

Joining Trouba in the leadership core are four established stars, each bringing their own influence to the group. Adam Fox, the 2021 Norris Trophy winner, has emerged as a cornerstone on defense and a quiet leader who leads with elite play and poise. Chris Kreider, the longest-tenured Ranger, provides veteran experience and vocal leadership, especially to younger players.

Up front, Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad continue to be key figures both offensively and within the team’s culture. Panarin, one of the league’s most dynamic forwards, had a career-best season last year and has grown into a more visible leader. Zibanejad remains a consistent and calming presence, both on the scoresheet and in the dressing room.

With a blend of youth, skill, and veteran savvy, the Rangers’ leadership group is well-equipped to guide the team through another Stanley Cup-contending campaign. Expectations are high in New York, and this core will be at the center of it all.
