On Monday, Italian journalist reported Como had held a meeting to try and secure the 19-year-old. Despite Como’s meeting earlier this week, Aston Villa are still in the race to sign him.
The situation around Rodríguez has forced Real Betis to look for options to replace him. They have identified Bayern Munich’s Bryan Zaragoza and Atlético Madrid’s Rodrigo Riquelme as the main options.
Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón and sporting director Manu Fajardo made a trip to Madrid to hold talks with Atlético for Johnny Cardoso. They are said to have discussed Riquelme during this meeting.
Cardoso is likely to join Los Rojiblancos and earlier today, Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea is among the favourites to replace him. They also stated the Villans could request €10m for him.
Emery’s side may use Barrenechea as a bargaining chip to try and beat Como to Rodríguez’s signature.
