The countdown to the inaugural season of the Guyana Super League (GSL) intensified on Friday as organizers unveiled the highly anticipated GSL championship trophy, coinciding with the official announcement of the 15-man squad for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, was attended by officials from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), GSL organizers, team management, players, and invited guests. The GSL trophy, a sleek, gold-and-silver-plated piece with emerald green accents symbolizing the nation’s lush forests and cricketing passion, drew admiration from those in attendance.

Speaking at the ceremony, GSL Chairman Ravi Persaud expressed enthusiasm about the league’s debut, saying, “This trophy represents more than just victory—it stands for a new era in Guyanese cricket. We are creating opportunities for players to shine on home soil and beyond.”

Following the trophy reveal, the Guyana Amazon Warriors management announced their official squad for the upcoming season. The 15-man roster blends seasoned local stars with exciting emerging talent, reflecting the team’s commitment to both performance and development.

Leading the squad is veteran all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford, who will serve as captain. The squad includes big names like Romario Shepherd, Shimron Hetmyer, and Gudakesh Motie, all of whom bring international experience and star power to the team. Promising youngsters such as Matthew Nandu, Isai Thorne, and Kevlon Anderson are also part of the mix, indicating a strong push to nurture future Guyanese cricketing icons.

The full squad is as follows: Sherfane Rutherford (Captain), Romario Shepherd, Shimron Hetmyer, Gudakesh Motie, Kevin Sinclair, Matthew Nandu, Kevlon Anderson, Isai Thorne, Junior Sinclair, Ashmead Nedd, Ricardo Adams, Veerasammy Permaul, Tevin Imlach (Wicketkeeper), Clinton Pestano, and Shamar Yearwood.

Team manager Andre Percival expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and depth, stating, “This team has the firepower and the versatility needed to compete at the highest level. We’ve struck a good mix between youth and experience.”
