CJ Carr Shines as Most Effective QB in Spring Action
April 19, 2025 — In a spring performance that offered a glimpse into the future of the Notre Dame offense, freshman quarterback CJ Carr stood out as the most effective signal-caller on the field. Carr led an impressive scoring drive marked by poise, precision, and a pair of deep completions that electrified the crowd.
Carr’s command of the offense was evident early in the series, where he connected on a perfectly placed 35-yard strike down the sideline to sophomore wideout Jaden Greathouse. He followed it up with another deep completion over the middle to Rico Flores Jr., placing the Irish well within striking distance.
More than just his arm, Carr showed maturity beyond his years with his decision-making. He avoided pressure in the pocket with smart footwork and consistently made the right reads, opting for check-downs when necessary and never forcing the ball into traffic.
The drive was capped with a short touchdown pass on a play-action rollout, highlighting his mobility and composure in the red zone.
While other quarterbacks had moments of success, Carr’s blend of accuracy, field awareness, and confidence set him apart. His ability to orchestrate a clean, efficient drive against a veteran defense bodes well for his chances to climb the depth chart heading into the summer.
With head coach Marcus Freeman emphasizing competition at every position, Carr’s performance has certainly added intrigue to the quarterback battle. Though he may still be young, his calm presence and clear talent are already turning heads.
As Notre Dame continues to evaluate its roster ahead of the 2025 season, CJ Carr’s spring showing has put him firmly in the spotlight—and the conversation for meaningful snaps this fall.
