Los Angeles Rams Look to Overcome First-Quarter Struggles, Pin Hopes on Healthy Offensive Line…..
Los Angeles, CA — The Los Angeles Rams are entering the second half of the season with renewed hope, determined to overcome their early-game struggles that have plagued them throughout the 2024 campaign. A team often known for its high-powered offense, the Rams have faced a frustrating trend of slow starts, particularly in the first quarter, where they’ve consistently found themselves playing catch-up.
Despite these early-season challenges, head coach Sean McVay and the Rams remain confident that a fully healthy offensive line can make a significant difference. After a series of injuries sidelined key players, including starting tackle Rob Havenstein and center Brian Allen, the Rams’ offensive line is beginning to return to full strength.
“We know we haven’t been firing on all cylinders early in games, but a big part of that has been missing key pieces up front,” McVay said during a recent press conference. “The line is a critical part of everything we do. Getting those guys back in the lineup will help us get into a rhythm much earlier in games.”
In addition to the return of Havenstein and Allen, the Rams have also seen promising development from younger offensive linemen like Steve Avila, whose quick adaptation to the starting role has been a silver lining in the midst of the team’s injury woes. With more stability and protection up front, quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ dynamic skill position players, including star wide receiver Cooper Kupp and running back Kyren Williams, are expected to benefit from improved blocking, allowing for more time to execute plays and move the ball effectively.
The Rams’ slow starts have been evident in several contests, where they’ve struggled to put points on the board early, often falling behind by double digits before mounting a comeback attempt. While the team has shown resilience in the second and third quarters, McVay emphasized that the first quarter is critical in setting the tone for the rest of the game.
“We can’t keep putting ourselves in a hole,” McVay explained. “We’ve shown that we can execute, but we need to start fast, finish drives, and stay on schedule early. Our offense will only go as far as our line can take us, and we’re excited to see the difference a healthy group up front can make.”
With key divisional matchups coming up and the NFC playoff race heating up, the Rams are hoping that the return of their offensive line to full health will provide the spark they need to get off to faster starts and play with more consistency in the first quarter. As the team approaches the midway point of the season, McVay’s offense is focused on making the necessary adjustments to give Stafford, Kupp, and the rest of the playmakers the support they need to execute at a high level from the opening snap.
Fans are hopeful that these adjustments will lead to more balanced and efficient offensive performances, allowing
