In Super Bowl XXI, the Broncos faced off against the New York Giants. Despite a strong start, Denver couldn’t maintain their momentum, ultimately falling to the Giants with a final score of 39–20. This defeat marked the first of what would become a string of Super Bowl disappointments for the team.

The following year, in Super Bowl XXII, the Broncos were poised for redemption. However, their hopes were dashed in a lopsided game against the Washington Redskins. Washington, led by a record-setting second-quarter performance, overwhelmed Denver, resulting in a 42–10 loss for the Broncos. The game was notable for Washington’s 35-point outburst in the second quarter, a Super Bowl record that still stands today.

The Broncos’ Super Bowl woes continued in Super Bowl XXIV, where they faced the San Francisco 49ers. This matchup turned out to be the most one-sided in Super Bowl history. The 49ers dominated from start to finish, handing the Broncos a crushing 55–10 defeat. This 45-point margin remains the largest point differential ever recorded in a Super Bowl, cementing the game as a historic low point for the Broncos.

These three Super Bowl losses, particularly the blowout by the 49ers, have left an indelible mark on the Broncos’ history. While the team has since enjoyed success, these early Super Bowl defeats serve as a reminder of the challenges the franchise has overcome in its pursuit of NFL glory.
