Roger Syd Barrett died of pancreatic cancer
Syd Barrett, the original lead guitarist and a primary songwriter for Pink Floyd, struggled with severe mental health issues, which were exacerbated by his use of psychedelic drugs. Barrett’s erratic behavior and declining mental state led to his departure from the band in 1968.
He lived in relative seclusion for the rest of his life, dying in 2006 from complications related to diabetes. Gilmour has reflected on Barrett’s tragic end with a sense of sorrow, recognizing the lost potential and the impact Barrett’s condition had on his life and the band.
Wright died of a heart attack in Paris.
Richard Wright, the band’s keyboardist and a key contributor to their sound, faced his own health challenges.
He battled cancer for several years and ultimately passed away in 2008. Gilmour has spoken of Wright with deep respect and affection, acknowledging his essential role in the band’s success and his contributions to their music.
