Here’s a sample retirement letter for Liam Bell, the fictional US swimmer
Dear Fans, Coaches, Teammates, and Supporters,
After much contemplation and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to retire from competitive swimming. This has been an incredibly tough choice for me, but I believe it is the right time for this chapter of my life to come to a close.
Competing for the United States has been the greatest honor of my life. Representing my country on the international stage has been a dream come true, and I am immensely proud of the accomplishments and memories I have made throughout my career.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me along this journey. To my coaches, whose guidance and wisdom have shaped me into the athlete and person I am today, thank you for believing in me and pushing me to reach my fullest potential.
To my teammates, competing alongside you has been an incredible privilege. The camaraderie and friendships I have formed will always hold a special place in my heart.
To my family and friends, thank you for your unwavering love, encouragement, and understanding throughout the highs and lows of my career.
While I am closing this chapter of my life as a competitive swimmer, I am excited about the future and the new opportunities it holds. Swimming will always be a part of who I am, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the sport in new ways.
